(ECNS) -- Zhejiang Media Group released an announcement on Sunday evening, saying it will further investigate and verify public concerns after an audio clip by the late pop star CoCo Lee revealing the unfairness of the popular singing show The Voice of China went viral on Chinese social media platforms recently.

In the announcement, Zhejiang Media Group, the broadcaster of the televised singing show The Voice of China, said that the Zhejiang Satellite TV has the responsibility and obligation to improve the show's supervision and fulfill its responsibilities as a broadcasting platform.

It urged the show's producer, Star CM Holdings Limited, to listen to the public's opinions, and maintain fairness and justice in program production, to ensure that every participant is respected.

In the nine-minute audio, Lee questioned why her contestant with higher scores faced elimination, while another contestant with lower scores was given a second chance during the show.

The deceased pop star also accused the director of the program intentionally insulting her during the show, causing her to fall on the floor without help. Lee underwent leg surgery in February after hip displacement but it proved later that that didn't help too much.

She was told to leave the show by the director's two aides, who threatened to call security due to her allegations.

The audio clip aroused public outrage. Both fans and supporters of Lee asked the producers of the show to apologize.

On Thursday night, the official Sina Weibo account of The Voice of China, said that the audio was maliciously edited and the directing group had already cleared up the misunderstanding with Lee and her staff when the incident happened.

However, the statement failed to appease the anger of the public but backfired. Many artists voiced for Lee and some contestants even exposed the shady deals of the show. Netizens called for boycotting the show.

As the controversy continues, the parent company of the "The Voice of China" has seen its stock fall by over 445 percent accumulatively since Friday.
