(ECNS) -- China's nuclear and radiation safety has remained stable, according to a report released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE)during an activity to mark the World Environment Day in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Tuesday.
The environment around key nuclear facilities was generally good, the report said.
The ionizing radiation level kept within fluctuation range in 2023.The gamma (γ) radiation dose rate was within the fluctuation range of natural baseline value. The natural radionuclide activity concentration in the air was within the natural background level.
There was no abnormal situation of artificial radionuclide activity concentration in the air. Activity concentration of natural radionuclides in waters of the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Pearl River, and other rivers and lakes remain at the baseline level. There is no abnormal concentration of artificial radionuclides.
In 2023, the environmental gamma radiation dose rate around operating nuclear power stations, civil research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle facilities, as well as radioactive waste disposal facilities, and the radionuclide activity concentrations associated with facility activities in air, water, soil, organisms and other environmental media weregenerally within the range of previous years.
China will further strengthen its supervision of nuclear facilities and management of radioactivity sources to ensure nuclear and radiation safety.
