China sets new record on LNG vessel delivery

(ECNS) -- A China's self-developed large liquefied natural gas (LNG) container vessel was named and delivered to QatarEnergy in Changxing Island, Shanghai on Friday, according to the shipbuilder, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd.

With a payload capacity of 174,000cubicmeters,the vessel HLAITAN marks the third vessel of its kind, as well as the seventh LNG vessel delivered by the shipbuilding company this year, setting a new annual delivery record.

The carrier measures 299 meters in length, 46.4 meters in width, and 26.25 meters in depth. Certified by both the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the China Classification Society (CCS), it features the latest generation of twin-skeg hull design and is equipped with multiple low-carbon and digital technologies and systems.

This year, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding secured 36 orders with QatarEnergy for LNG carriers, including 24 ultra-large LNG vessels with a payload capacity of 271,000 cubic meters and 12 large LNG vessels with a payload capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, ranking first among global shipbuilders in terms of contract value and total payload capacity.

Since the first vessel delivered to Qatar on Sept. 12 this year, the company has successfully delivered three ships in less than 3 months.

HLAITAN is scheduled to enter operation on Dec. 11. Another large LNG carrier is expected to be launched by the end of this year.
