      1. China to hold military parade to mark 80th anniversary of victory against Japanese aggression, fascism

      China will hold a military parade in Tiananmen Square, downtown Beijing, on Sept. 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

      All weapons and equipment to be reviewed in the grand military parade will be "domestically produced, active-duty main battle gear", highlighting the latest achievements in the Chinese military's equipment system development, a senior military organizer said.

      China will invite leaders of relevant countries, former political figures, high-ranking officials, heads of international organizations, foreign diplomats, and military attachés stationed in China, as well as representatives of international organizations.

      2. 2025 Summer Davos forum held in Tianjin

      Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a keynote speech at the opening plenary of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos, in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

      Featuring the theme "Entrepreneurship for a New Era," the event, held from June 24 to 26, is gathering over 1,700 leading figures from more than 90 countries and regions to explore how entrepreneurship and emerging technologies can unlock more dynamic and resilient economies.

      3. SCO defense ministers' meeting held in China

      The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers' Meeting on Thursday convened in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province.

      All parties participating in the meeting agreed to enhance strategic communication, promote practical cooperation, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability.

      4.6 killed in SW China's Guizhou's flooding

      As of 11 a.m. Thursday, six people have died due to severe flooding in Rongjiang County, southwest China's Guizhou Province.

      Continuous heavy rainfall and upstream inflows have triggered severe flooding in two counties of Guizhou Province in southwest China, prompting mass evacuations.

      5. Shenzhou-20 astronauts complete second series of extravehicular activities

      The Shenzhou-20 crew on board China's orbiting space station completed their mission's second series of extravehicular activities on Thursday, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

      Chen Dong and Chen Zhongrui, tasked with conducting spacewalk operations, completed the installation of a debris protection device and the inspection and maintenance of external equipment. They also installed foot restraint adapters and interface adapters on the extravehicular platform, which will help astronauts during extravehicular activities.

      6. Chinese basketball player Yang Hansen goes to Portland Trail Blazers

      Chinese basketball player Yang Hansen became the 16th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and is headed to the Portland Trail Blazers who traded down with the Memphis Grizzlies.

      Turning 20 on Thursday, the young center played for the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association.

      7. China's largest offshore gas field in S China Sea fully operational

      China's first self-developed ultra-deep-water gas field, Shenhai-1, reached full production on Wednesday, becoming the country's largest offshore gas field by output.

      All 23 subsea wells at the field are now in operation, reaching a peak daily capacity of 15 million cubic meters.

      8. Northern China and Beijing hit by intense heatwave

      Beijing and multiple regions across northern China are battling with intense heatwaves this week, triggering meteorological authorities to issue orange high-temperature alerts as temperatures soar toward 40 C, posing significant challenges to daily life and public activities.

      9. First giant panda cub of 2025 born at Chinese conservation center

      The Shenshuping Base in southwest China's Sichuan Province had welcomed the year's first giant panda cub born in captivity.

      The cub was delivered at 11:50 p.m. on June 21 to Linglang, a first-time mother, following a successful natural mating with male panda Yaxing in early March.

      10. China's earliest steel acupuncture needles found in ancient marquis' tomb

      China's earliest known steel acupuncture needles have been discovered in the famed tomb of the Marquis of Haihun in east China's Jiangxi Province.

      The needles, expertly crafted using sophisticated puddling steel technology, date back over 2,000 years to the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD). They were unearthed from a jade tube inside a gold-foiled lacquer box. However, the burial conditions had left the medical needles severely corroded and fragmented.
