This photo provided by the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology on Feb. 20, 2019 shows a pit filled with Buddha statues discovered in Xizhou City, Shanxi Province, close to the sacred Buddhist mountain Wutai. The institute said a total of 34 Buddha statues, made in the period from the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) to the Tang Dynasty (1368-1644), have been found during six years of excavation work. Archeologists said the statues were possibly buried during the Tang Dynasty, when there was a crackdown on Buddhism. (Photo provided to China News Service)
