A previous member of the AVG Flying Tigers, Chen Jintang, passed away at the age of 98 in New York on May 23, 2021. Chen’s ancestral home is in Taishan City, south China’s Guangdong Province. During the World War II, he joined the army in the United States in 1943 and later became one of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) pilots who helped China fight the Japanese. Between 1943 and 1946, Chen followed the troops to Yunnan’s Luoping, Hubei’s Enshi, and Chongqing and was awarded for his outstanding performances.
