      35% of Chinese men get no paternity leave: report

      (ECNS) -- A survey released by LinkedIn shows that 35 percent of men do not have paternity leave and lack of family support is the biggest obstacle to gender equality in seeking career opportunities.

      Some 96 percent of women respondents said paternity leave for men is critically important to sharing family pressures and reducing gender inequality in employment opportunities.  

      The survey found that only 41 percent of Chinese female respondents were confident about their career opportunities in the short term, 6 percentage points lower than the figure for men. 

      Data also shows nearly one in three women changed jobs or became full-time mothers after giving birth, while 46 percent said they missed career opportunities due to becoming a mother. In comparison, only 23 percent identified children as a factor impacting their career. 

      The report included responses from 1,100 mothers who re-entered the job market within two years after giving birth. Some respondents were working in first-tier and newly emerging cities.
