(ECNS) – Last Friday, the 3rd Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors Convention at Tsinghua University - "High-Quality Development and Chinese Path to Modernization" was successfully held. The event aims to enhance the development and cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries by gathering over 50 ambassadors and representatives from LAC countries and scholars and experts from Tsinghua University.
In the beginning, Wang Xiqin, president of Tsinghua University, delivered a speech expressing his hope for cooperation between China and LAC countries to promote global peace and development and build a community with a shared future for mankind amid profound global changes unseen in a century.
Uruguayan Ambassador to China Fernando Lugris then elucidated the significance of comprehending the impact of the high-quality development brings to the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and LAC countries. In addition, he noted that Tsinghua University has played an important role in building the platform for communication between governments and in enhancing the academic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation with LAC countries.
At the keynote speech, Bai Chong-En, Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University delivered a speech themed "High-Quality Development and Chinese Path to Modernization". Prof. Bai explained the new trend of China’s socioeconomic development and the importance of Chinese modernization to the world from four aspects - innovation- and synergy-based development, people-oriented development, green development and peaceful development.
During the Round Table Discussion, Prof. Bai and Ambassador Lugris had deep and profound exchanges with participants focusing on green and peaceful development, the extension of opening up, technological innovation, infrastructure construction, supply-side reform, educational cooperation, and artificial intelligence development.
The Convention concluded with the vice president of Tsinghua University Wang Hongwei’s speech. By quoting the famous Chinese poem "If you have a friend afar who knows your heart, distance can't keep you two apart", Prof. Wang stressed that Tsinghua University will continue to build a bridge between China and LAC countries and platforms for balanced, harmonious, and inclusive development around the world.
