Feed corn export channel from South African to China opens

(ECNS) -- The first shipment of imported feed corn from South Africa arrived at Machong Port in south China’s Guangdong Province on Thursday, marking the opening of a new export channel from South Africa to China.

This batch of 53,000 tons of feed corn was imported by COFCO Corporation, a Chinese giant of agricultural business After strict inspection and quarantine, it will be supplied to domestic feed companies.

Corn is the most important local crop in South Africa, accounting for about 40 percent of the total crop value. Both South Africa's corn production and export volume rank among the top 10 in the world.

The feed-grade yellow corn produced in South Africa has low moisture content and impurities, and it features excellent quality, making it an important source of high-quality feed corn worldwide.

COFCO's South African corn export channel followed the opening of the Brazilian corn export channel in January this year.

This helps form a circulation pattern where major corn producing countries and regions in the northern hemisphere, such as the United States and the Black Sea region, complement those in the southern hemisphere, such as South America and South Africa.

Experts believe that this is conducive to balancing seasonal and regional supply fluctuations globally, which can better serve Chinese customers and help stabilize the global supply chain system.
