(ECNS) -- A domestically produced 5G surgical robot demonstrated at the 31st PT Expo China attracted many visitors on Sunday. It successfully completed China's first 5G ultra-long-distance robotic liver and gallbladder surgery in February this year.
Through the transmission of signals via a customized 5G network, experts at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Zhejiang Province can issue motion commands remotely to operate the surgical robot exhibited in Beijing.
With the assistance of high-definition visuals, the remote experts can accurately perform various simulated surgical actions through the articulated robotic arm, such as dissection, separation, and suturing.
The surgery in February was conducted on a local patient at Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps using a domestically produced surgical robot called Tumai, with the assistance of China Telecom's 5G technology. The procedure involved a cholecystectomy, or the removal of the gallbladder.
China Telecom's customized 5G network offered high bandwidth, low latency, and isolation from the public network. The network's disconnection warning service can quickly detect incidents and promptly issue alarms, and will ensure continuous operation relying on a highly redundant network infrastructure.
A dozen remote surgeries have been conducted by robotic arms in Xinjiang, Tibet, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and more.
