China allocates over 230 bln yuan in ultra-long special treasury bonds for key projects in 2025

China has allocated over 230 billion yuan ($31.8 billion) in ultra-long special treasury bonds this year to support major national strategies and strengthen security capacity in key areas, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on Tuesday, according to China Media Group (CMG).

With support from ultra-long special treasury bonds, major national projects are gaining momentum. In the transport sector, over 120 road and waterway projects along the Yangtze River Economic Belt have been launched, accelerating the development of a modern, integrated corridor. Investment in high-speed rail in the Yangtze River Delta is expected to hit 116.8 billion yuan in 2025, according to CMG's report.

In urban development, ultra-long special treasury bonds and central budget completed investments are supporting around 3,800 underground pipeline upgrade projects nationwide, with total project investment exceeding 600 billion yuan. So far, these key national projects have helped attract about 2.1 trillion yuan in private capital, the report said.

The CMG report further highlighted various projects undergoing acorss the country.

In North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the sixth phase of the Three-North  Shelterbelt Forest Project has launched a new round of desertification control, restoring over 50,000 mu (about 3,300 hectares) per day. By adopting diverse methods and ensuring land, water, and seedling supply, the project aims to strengthen the ecological barrier for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the report said.

In Central China's Hunan Province, major construction has begun on the upgraded Xiangjiang waterway, deepening the channel from 2.8 to 4.5 meters. Across the province, 28 ports and 79 berths for 1,000-ton-class vessels are moving toward integrated operations, helping drive down logistics costs, according to CMG.

In Foshan, South China's Guangdong Province, construction has begun on urban infrastructure upgrades, including underground pipelines. Crews aim to complete repairs and cleaning of nearly 100 kilometers of drainage pipes before the rainy season, while also improving pipeline maintenance and management systems, the report said.
