China stands ready to continue cooperation with Japan and the Republic of Korea in fighting against COVID-19, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in Beijing Monday.
Zhao Lijian told a news briefing that the health ministers meeting on COVID-19 between China, Japan and the ROK was convened via video conference on May 15 to enhance cooperation in response to COVID-19, and the meeting issued a joint statement.
It was another important event for the three countries to share anti-epidemic experience after the video conference for foreign ministers in March, the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19 and the ASEAN Plus Three Health Ministers Meeting on COVID-19 in April, Zhao said.
He said China introduced its current epidemic prevention and control measures and experience at the meeting, and put forward three proposals for future cooperation between China, Japan and the ROK.
"China proposes supporting the leading role of the World Health Organization in fighting against COVID-19, actively developing global cooperation in joint prevention and control, and improving the response capabilities of countries with fragile health systems through joint efforts," Zhao said.
He said China called on all countries to work together to respond to the epidemic, protect regional and global public health security, and support the building of a community of health for all.
China, Japan and the ROK have been supporting and helping each other in epidemic prevention and control since the outbreak, Zhao said.
"China is willing to continue cooperation with Japan and the ROK to share experience in epidemic prevention, coordinate prevention and control measures, work together to achieve a final victory in the battle against COVID-19 and contribute to maintaining regional and global public health security," he said.
