(ECNS) -- Eleven transfer stations were built on pastoral roads in Burqin County, Altay, in 2021 to meet herders' daily life needs such as bathing, eating, using electricity, etc.
Herders must transfer their livestock to winter pastures as it gets colder. They have to move five to six times according to the seasons annually in order to find good pastures.
However, hundreds of miles of trekking, the changing weather and insufficient daily necessities make the seasonal journey very hard.
Therefore, the Burqin County proposed to build transfer stations for herders.
An old herder arrived at a transfer station with his sheep flock after tramping 20 miles on his journey to the autumn pasture 100 miles away.
Burqin County plans to built 21 transfer stations by 2022 and 11 have been finished.
Each one is equipped with supporting facilities such as dining, dormitories, bathing rooms, photovoltaic solar energy, fences, etc.
Built on the transfer journey, these structures provide necessities for living and production, emergency aid, pandemic prevention and control, medical services, etc.
The current 11 post houses have served more than 1,200 herder families in the county.
