(ECNS) -- Known as the "Water tower in China," Sanjiangyuan, or the Three-River-Source, is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is the source of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers, and also home to wildlife.
In the past, the ecological degradation in the area was serious due to human activities and global warming with glaciers melting, snow-capped mountains shrinking, vegetation degrading, lakes drying up. And the source area of the Yellow River even stopped flowing for a time.
In order to protect the land, the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee put forward the reform task of "establishing the national park system."
In December 2015, the Plan for Establishment of National Park System was adopted, marking the launch of the first pilot of China's national park system. Since then, the government has taken multiple measures to establish an ecological environment monitoring system and compensation mechanism. In the area, more than 20,000 local herdsmen have become ecological rangers.
Over the past decade, the average annual growth rate of water conservation has reached more than 6%. In October 2021, the Three-River-Source National Park was officially established to protect the source of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers.
The ecosystem has been comprehensively protected and restored. At present, it is China's largest national park, also known as the "paradise of wildlife," home to many national first-class protected animals such as snow leopards, Tibetan wild asses, musk deer, and leopards, etc.
If we humanity do not fail Nature, Nature will not fail us. A new ecological governance system came into being in the Three-River-Source. The running waters are telling the stories of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
