In 1839, Lin Zexu gave the word to destroy opium in public at Humen in Guangdong Province. In 23 days, a total of around 1188 tons of opium were destroyed. The heroic act in Humen is especially hailed as a monument in the world’s anti-drug history.
On International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, we visited the Fuzhou New Museum in Beijing, a museum that remembers Lin Zexu and also a national base on anti-drug education and promotion, to review China's anti-drug history, remember those who fight in this course, and learn how to protect ourselves from the harm of drugs.
