China expects the coming G20 summit to achieve results in economic growth, improving governance, reducing trade barriers and addressing global challenges, a Chinese Foreign Ministry Official said on Thursday.

Zhang Jun, head of the Foreign Ministry's international economy department, said Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the ninth G20 summit, which will be held in Brisbane, Australia from Nov 15 to 16.

Zhang told a press briefing that President Xi will elaborate on China's stance regarding major issues of the global economy, put forward proposals, advance cooperation and send out signals of confidence at the G20 summit, Zhang said.

President Xi will work with other members to explore ways to promote growth, improve people's livelihood and inject impetus in global economic governance, Zhang said.

On the sidelines of the G20 summit, President Xi will also attend an informal meeting of the BRICS countries, a term describing the developing economies of China, Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa, according to Zhang Jun.

"President Xi's attendance at the summit reflects the high importance that China attaches to G20 and its active and constructive attitude toward working with other countries to promote world economic growth and enhance global economic governance," Zhang said.

"The Chinese side believes and expects that the G20 summit will achieve positive results," Zhang said.

First, the Chinese side expects the summit to come up with new measures to promote growth of global economy, draft a strategy of comprehensive growth for G20, promote infrastructure investment, seek new growth spots for the global economy and advance the transition of the world economy from seasonal recovery to sustainable growth.

Second, the Chinese side expects the summit to take new steps forward in improving global economic governance, advance reform of the international financial system, step up energy cooperation and jointly guarantee international energy security.

Third, the Chinese side expects the summit to reach new consensus on building an open global economy, continue to oppose trade and investment protectionism and jointly safeguard multilateral trade systems.

Fourth, the Chinese side expects the summit to seek new breakthroughs on resolving global problems, pay greater attention to development issues, and support the United Nations efforts to draft a post-2015 international development agenda, advance international cooperation on preventing Ebola and combating corruption.
