(ECNS) -- China's self-developed 4-seat electric aircraft, the Ruixiang RX4E, has obtained its type certificate, marking a breakthrough in the new energy electric aircraft technology, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Thursday.
Designed by the Liaoning General Aviation Academy of Shenyang Aerospace University, the aircraft complies with CCAR-23 regulations. Powered by electric batteries, it has a maximum flight endurance of 1.5 hours.
It features a wingspan of 13.5 meters, a length of 8.4 meters, and a maximum takeoff weight of 1,260 kilograms.
Its lithium battery has a total capacity of kilowatt-hours while its electric propulsion system delivers a maximum power of 140 kilowatt.
The aircraft boasts zero emissions, low noise, low operating costs, and high safety and reliability.
Since its type certification application was accepted by CAAC on Nov. 11, 2019, the aircraft has undergone five years of comprehensive airworthiness verification.
The RX4E holds broad potential for future applications, including pilot training, sightseeing tours, aerial photography, and aviation surveying. Additionally, plans are underway to develop a series of variants, such as water, snow and ice versions, hydrogen-powered, and other specialized models, to expand its range of applications and enhance market competitiveness.
