(ECNS) -- China’s installed new energy capacity, which includes wind power, solar energy and biomass power generation, has reached 1.45 billion kilowatts, exceeding the country’s installed thermal power capacity for the first time.
According to a press conference held by the China Electricity Council in Beijing on Friday, China's total installed power generation capacity reached 3.35 billion kilowatts by the end of 2024, marking a 14.6 percent increase year-on-year.
In 2024, China's solar power generation capacity soared by 45.2 percent to approximately 890 million kilowatts, while wind power capacity expanded by 18 percent to around 520 million kilowatts.
So far, the power sector has made significant strides in green and low-carbon transformation, with a notable surge in newly installed capacities of gas power and pumped-storage facilities, further enhancing the grid's flexibility and regulation capabilities.
Investment in power generation projects by major national enterprises in 2024 amounted to approximately 1.17 trillion yuan ($161.5 billion), up 12.1 percent.
China has achieved notable outcomes in its energy transition. A recent document released by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration outlines plans to enhance the regulatory capacity of the nation's power system between 2025 and 2027.
