Long lines were seen at the West Kowloon Station early Monday morning. Ticket sales for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail officially started on the day.
Some Hong Kong residents said they had been there?as early as 3 p.m. the day before.
The new railway linking Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland is set to begin services on Sept. 23, taking Hong Kong passengers to more than 40 mainland cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Zhengzhou.
Mr. Xu, a Hong Kong resident said "It's very convenient. Previously, I had to catch the high-speed train to the mainland in Shenzhen. Now I don't need to travel that far. I accompanied my son on his way to Shanghai Jiaotong University to study. We took a train from Guangzhou and the journey took 25 hours. It was about 10 years ago."
More than 6,400 tickets were sold in Hong Kong for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway on Monday.
