(ECNS) -- Dozens of tents were set up in a playground center of the resettlement site in the Hailuogou educational area in the 6.8-magnitude earthquake-hit Luding County in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
After the earthquake last Monday, most of the students have been taken home by their parents. However, more than 80 students have been stranded at the resettlement site as many roads around the school have been damaged. Teachers at the resettlement site have to play multiple roles.
Under the impact of the disaster, the school cooks were unable to be on duty. So teachers picked up spatulas, built stoves, and cooked together with students' parents and volunteers. They also help students with their homework and psychological counseling.
"Some children's houses have been hit by the earthquake, and their parents couldn't take them home. Cooking has thereby become a norm, and whoever is at hand will take responsibility for cooking. For example I can cut vegetables, wash dishes, and cook. I also organize student activities. I'm here as long as they need. When children have something warm to eat and enjoy their meals, I feel happy from the bottom of my heart," said Wang Qiang, a teacher of Hailuogou Primary school, Moxi Town, Luding County.
